This project aims to provide technical assistance to Plan International (Jordan) in writing the child report for the universal periodic review for human rights (UPR). The project activities, which will be implemented over a period of 4 months (2/2023 until 5/2023), include the following:
- Conduct a desk review and in-depth analysis of all relevant documents available to review the situation of children’s rights in Jordan, in particular developments related to children’s rights since the previous universal periodic review 2018. The review will also include the recommendations of the 2018 UPR relating to children, any implementation of these recommendations, and the challenges facing the government in implementing them. The desk review and analysis will also include a review of all relevant documents including Plan International’s strategy in Jordan.
- Develop data collection tools and develop training materials for capacity building.
- Strengthening the capacities of a group of girls and young women in UPR mechanisms: This capacity-building training aims to strengthen the capacities of girls and young women in politics and testimony writing, and will be conducted in a participatory manner, and in a manner appropriate to the age of the participants.
- Conduct a series of focus groups: In coordination with Plan International, a series of focus groups will be organized with the “She” network leading the girls and young women’s network and Plan International staff to follow up on the written process of the UPR and share comments on the written policy and feedback prepared/sent by the girls and young women.
- Hold consultative meetings with relevant stakeholders and Plan International staff: The meetings aim to engage stakeholders in developing the Stakeholder Submission Summary (Shadow Report) and to include their views in the submission.
- Integration of all documents into a final report for the UPR 2024: The Shadow Report will contain reliable information on the human rights situation relating to children in Jordan, will highlight key human rights issues of concern, best practices and will cover the period since the last review (2018). The report will be focused and analytical, and will present conclusions based on a comprehensive analysis of the situation in Jordan, with a brief formulation of achievements, remaining concerns and recommendations.
