The “Monitoring and Analysis of Misinformation and Fake News in Jordan, Lebanon, Tunisia and Morocco” project, which is being implemented over a period of 9 months (4/2023 to 12/2023) in partnership with the Civil Rights Defenders (CRD), aims to examine the main narratives of disinformation, misinformation and fake news in the Jordanian, Lebanese, Tunisian, and Moroccan Media, imposing prior censorship on publication and content in order to prevent the spread of misleading speech in these countries.
The project will also analyze the impact of the spread of misinformation, disinformation and fake news in the media or social media platforms on public opinion in the four targeted countries, and how did this lead to the public losing confidence in the media?
In order to analyze how the media contribute to misleading the public in the four countries, a detailed report will be developed supported by four cases from each country involving misinformation or fake news by the media in each targeted country.
The four cases in each country could be statements issued by the media about political, social, economic, and health events, or incomplete and partial news statements such as news of the Covid-19 epidemic, or as a result of publishing such news or imposing prior censorship on some news about important events that It occurred in these countries, and there was confusion among the public and this affected civil peace, or this news contributed to misleading the public in the four countries.
