The project “Follow-Up on the 2018 Universal Periodic Review Recommendations” was implemented over five and a half months (October 1, 2021 – March 15, 2022) in partnership with the Swedish development partner I.M.
The project aimed to monitor Jordan’s commitments to implementing the recommendations of the 2018 Universal Periodic Review (UPR). It contributed to increasing dialogue and discussions among civil society organizations, the government, and national institutions regarding Jordan’s commitments related to the UPR and the steps all stakeholders need to take before the fourth cycle in 2024.
The project had two main objectives:
- Increase Coordination: Enhance coordination between the government, national institutions, and civil society organizations to work together in supporting the government to implement the 2018 UPR recommendations.
- Increase Public Awareness: Raise public awareness about Jordan’s UPR recommendations and influence decision-makers to fulfill their commitments.
The project included several activities, such as:
- One-Day Forum: Organized a forum that gathered relevant stakeholders, including civil society organizations, national institutions, the government, media, international NGOs, and foreign embassies, to discuss Jordan’s stance on implementing the 2018 UPR recommendations.
- Monitoring Platform: The Center for Protection and Freedom of Journalists established a monitoring platform on its website that includes all UPR recommendations. This platform serves as a source of information for stakeholders, actors, and the public to track the implementation status of the recommendations accepted by Jordan.
- Report Development: The project contributed to the development of a report on Jordan’s implementation of the 2018 UPR recommendations.
- Awareness Campaign: Conducted a social media awareness campaign in coordination with stakeholders aimed at supporting human rights and increasing awareness of the 2018 UPR recommendations.
